LANGHAM HOTELS INTERNATIONAL WINS TOP ITB AWARD
Dual brands recognised for creativity

(March, 2008) – Langham Hotels International (LHI) has been awarded the First Prize for two print advertising campaigns by the jury of Das goldene Stadttor - the premier travel industry advertising awards at ITB Berlin. This marks the second time that the company has walked away with top honours following the previous first prize award for 'The Butler' television campaign two years ago.

The creative campaigns redefined The Langham and Langham Place brands to reflect their essence and the expectations of each brand's guest profile. Significantly, the win demonstrates that the print campaigns are world class and achieve the objective of defining both dynamic brands.

Das goldene Stadttor recognises concept and creativity as well as information delivery and its impact emotionally on the viewer. They reward excellence in advertising and communication in the travel industry and are open to all cities and regions to hotels, airlines and associations linked to tourism.

Brett Butcher, Senior Vice President - Sales & Marketing, said: "The re-positioning of both brands required two very distinctive campaigns to thoroughly embrace their specific customer sets. The creative is just the tip of the spear as it visually embodies the distinctive guest experience of each brand."

"The award affirms our belief that the creative should strongly reflect the brand's personality while creatively cutting through the clutter of other hotel advertising to reach our target audiences,' he added.

Steering the project is Chandelier, a young and dynamic New York-based creative agency. As fashion advertising experts and aficionados, the team at Chandelier brings a fresh perspective to our brands, extending the boundaries of a typical hotel campaign.

Langham Hotels International enjoys a heritage of winning awards for both its marketing and its high quality operations.

  • The Langham Auckland was voted the best hotel in New Zealand three years in a row
  • Langham Place, Mongkok Hong Kong won a Top Quality Management Award at the HK Management Association 2007
  • The Langham London was voted the Best Business Hotel in the city
  • The Langham, Huntington Hotel & Spa, Pasadena is a Mobil AAA Five Diamond winner and its restaurant, The Dining Room, holds a coveted Michelin Star

As a result, the company continues to expand - doubling in size in the last 12 months including two new openings in Koh Lanta, Thailand and Pasadena this year. Four more are planned to open in China in the next 12 months.

LHI has also signed several Memorandums of Understanding to develop new properties in key locations around the world as investors seek Langham Hotels International's award-winning quality management services.

Brett Butcher said: "Winning awards is just the icing on the cake for an expanding luxury hotel operator. It tells our potential investors that we add essential value to their investment through quality brand management which ultimately translates into market share and a successful and profitable relationship."

CAMPAIGN NOTES:

The Langham 'Enchanting Hospitality' Campaign

When The Langham in London, originally opened in 1865, it was Europe's first Grand Hotel, frequently visited by royalty and celebrities.

The Langham is a classic European luxury brand dating back over 140 years when it first opened in London as Europe's first Grand Hotel to enthrall and enchant generations of guests with values which are still relevant to guests in the 21st century.

All four creative executions were shot at the flagship property in London are designed to exude timeless elegance and showcase the grace, historic charm and touch of fairytale magic that you will find in all The Langham properties.

The Langham has chosen pink to be their corporate colour and throughout the campaign this distinctive colour is highly visible, giving the group clear brand associations with the colour which is unique for a brand in the luxury hospitality industry.

Langham Place "Stimulating Hospitality"

The stimulating Langham Place hotel is portrayed as a playground. Using strong imagery and punchy copy, this campaign focuses on profiling the sense of individuality of the hotel as well as its guests.

All four creative executions show Langham Place as refreshing and modern. The images of the guests represent adventurous, fun-loving and young at heart people. They work hard, play hard and love to be inspired, waking up to new experiences that broaden their frontiers.

The advertising is clearly divided into two elements.

The first element showcases one of the hotel's key characteristics or Unique Selling Points (USPs) that also underpins our guest experience while the second element represents the individuals who are likely to be guests of Langham Place.
